We are parents.
We are advocates.
We want you to FOLLOWT1Ds.
Our Mission
FOLLOWT1Ds is dedicated to improving the implementation of diabetes care in schools through advocacy, education, and collaboration.
We advocate for parents, schools, and doctors to have a shared understanding of what students with Type 1 Diabetes need to be safe, supported, and in target range for learning at school while encouraging strong relationships that support collaboration.
Advocate
We advocate for students with T1D to receive care at school that reflects how their diabetes is managed today, including CGM remote monitoring when requested. We advocate for nurses and schools to receive the education, support, and practical guidance they need to implement current care with confidence. We advocate for doctors’ orders to be recognized as medical orders and implemented with the seriousness T1D care requires.
Educate
We seek to educate schools, doctors, and communities about what students with T1D need now and how each part of the team supports safe, current care during which must keep pace with how T1D is managed today.
Collaborate
We promote collaboration among parents, schools, and doctors to address barriers affecting T1D care during the school day. When parents are heard, schools are supported, and doctors remain engaged, students will have safe access to the education they are promised.
FOLLOWT1Ds brings together parents, nurses, educators, healthcare professionals, and advocates who share a commitment to improving how Type 1 Diabetes care is understood and implemented in schools. Our team combines lived experience and professional expertise to advocate for better practices, strengthen understanding, and build collaboration among the people responsible for supporting students with T1D throughout the school day.
